ACC CAUTIONS PUBLIC: CALL BEFORE YOU DIG |
Following several natural gas incidents in the Phoenix area, the Commission's Pipeline Safety Group reminds the public that the underground facilities law requires everyone to call the One Call Center at least two days before excavation. |
"Our Pipeline Safety Group has investigated several hazardous incidents," said Commissioner-Chairman Jim Irvin. "We need to make sure that the public keeps safety in mind at all times." |
The underground facilities law, commonly referred to as the Blue Stake Law, requires anyone who digs on public or private property to call the One Call Center at least two working days before digging. The One Call Center then notifies those who own underground facilities in the area (usually utilities) so that they can locate and mark the exact location of their facilities. |
The underground facilities law does not apply just to the pros. Even a homeowner planting a tree or installing a sprinkler system is subject to the law. |
"Compliance with the Blue Stake Law avoids costly property damage, interruption of utility service and construction delays, not to mention potential death and injuries," Irvin said. |
