COMMISSION TO CO-SPONSOR CONFERENCE ON FEDERAL UNIVERSAL SERVICE FUND DISCOUNTS FOR SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES AND RURAL HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS |

The Arizona Corporation Commission will co-sponsor a conference on February 20 at Arizona State University's Student Memorial Union in Tempe, Arizona to address the federal universal service fund discounts available for Arizona schools, libraries and rural health care providers. The conference is entitled "Getting Connected in Arizona." |

The Honorable John McCain has been invited to present the luncheon remarks. The Conference will include the following speakers: Jim Irvin, Commissioner-Chairman of the Arizona Corporation Commission; Pete Belvin, Senior Advisor for Telecommunications, Office of U.S. Senator John McCain; Elliot Maxwell, Deputy Chief, Office of Plans and Policy, Federal Communications Commission; Debra Kriete, General Counsel, Schools and Libraries Corporation, and representatives from Cox Communications, Televideo, Citizens Telephone Company and U S WEST Communications, Inc. |

The speakers will address the following issues: 1) a policy brief from Washington on the universal service fund, 2) the structure of the universal fund and how it will function for rural health care providers, schools and libraries, 3) the role of the Arizona Corporation Commission, 4) the nuts and bolts of the application process, and 5) the role of telephone and cable companies. |
