CORPORATION COMMISSION TO HOLD U S WEST
SERVICE QUALITY FORUM

The Arizona Corporation Commission has scheduled a U S WEST Service Quality Forum to take place on August 31, 1999. The purpose of the forum is to institute a constructive process to assure that service quality is improved for the customers of U S WEST. Over the last three years, U S WEST has paid substantial fines for failing to meet Commission quality of service standards. Commissioner Bill Mundell, who will chair the forum, stated that "If U S WEST is paying fines, that means that the Company is not doing its job to see that U S WEST customers receive good service. The goal is not to punish U S WEST but rather to work with them to ensure Arizona consumers receive the telecommunications services they deserve." The topics to be discussed by Commission Staff and U S WEST representatives are held orders for installation of service, and out of service repair times. Separately, US WEST has requested an increase in rates, and a Commission hearing on that request is scheduled to commence on January 10, 2000.

The U S WEST Service Quality Forum will take place at the offices of the Commission at 1200 W. Washington in Phoenix on August 31, 1999, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Following a brief presentation by the Commission's Utilities Division Staff, public comment will be taken. U S WEST will also make a presentation, which will be followed by Commissioners' discussion of the issues.

Those interested persons who cannot attend may listen to the forum by calling the Commission's Listen line at (602) 542-0222.
