Public Comment December 12 on Power Line Proposal
Tucson Electric Power/Citizens Line Subject of Meeting

PHOENIX - The Arizona Corporation Commission will be holding a public comment session on the joint power line project proposed by Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and Citizens Utilities. The December 12 meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Room 222 of the Commission's Tucson office at 400 West Congress Street.

TEP and Citizens Utilities are proposing to build a 345 kV power line from TEP's existing substation in Sahuarita, Arizona to Nogales, Arizona. The Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee earlier held several days of hearings before granting conditional approval for the western route. The approval from the Siting Committee is contingent upon the applicant's meeting 28 separate conditions. These conditions deal with everything from protecting native plants and animals to preserving the environment and archaeology in the corridor. Additionally, there are conditions that address rights-of-way and design of the transmission structures. The Arizona Corporation Commission must still review, approve, deny or amend the proposal.

The applicant and several intervenors requested review of the Siting Committee decision and the Commission's Administrative Law Judge set the following schedule for the review process:

Oral Argument by the parties (applicant and intervenors) to the case for December 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Commission's Phoenix office. No public comment will be taken at this meeting.

December 12 public comment session in the Tucson office on December 12 at 10:00 a.m. The Commissioners will not be voting on the case at this meeting.

Open Meeting for a Commission vote on the case, presently scheduled for January 3, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in Phoenix.

The Commission will be using the largest meeting room available to us but space may be limited. Large groups may wish to choose a spokesperson from their group to attend the meeting. The Commissioners typically limit the duration of public comment to allow everyone a fair opportunity to speak. All comments will be transcribed by a court reporter and the transcript will be available for review at both the Phoenix and Tucson offices approximately two weeks following the meeting.

For those who cannot attend in person, the Commission encourages the timely submission of written comments. Submit comments to the Docket Control Center and they will be distributed to all registered parties or intervenors. Be sure to reference docket numbers L-00000C-01-0111 and L-00000F-01-0111 so that the letter is properly catalogued and referenced. Send to:
